Department of Medical Emergencies
History:
Department of Emergency Nursing is responsible for the education and training of emergency nursing students. The Department also plans for, manages and implements an extremely important part of the specialized training of associate and undergraduate students of emergency nursing in the theoretical, practical, apprenticeship and clinical setting areas.
Perspective:
The Department seeks to train experienced, efficient and committed professionals who are capable of providing efficient assistance to the members of the community in the time of need (from the request to the transfer to the medical centers) as a member of the treatment team.
Vision:
1) Early and rapid assessment of the disease;
2) Delivering medical aid to critically ill patients and the injured;
3) Establishing communication with the main emergency centers and consultant physician;
4) The appropriate use of the equipment in the ambulance in order to move and transfer the patient and monitor and stabilize his/her condition;
5) Setting goals and codifying a curriculum based on national and local needs;
6) Offering curricula through simulation in clinical skills centers using appropriate educational tools and equipment (mannequins, moulages) and ambulances;
7) Emphasizing real-world application of learned skills (in hospitals and then in emergency centers);
8) Giving attention to new teaching methods and techniques with emphasis on problem solving methods;
9) Designing a curriculum based on professional roles and responsibilities;
10) Student education aimed at strengthening self-learning and continuous learning; and
11) Planning based on issues related to disasters and possible changes in job description under special circumstances..
Research priorities:
1) Determining the research priorities of the field with the collaboration of the Department;
2) Appropriate interaction of faculty members and students to promote their research procedures;
3) Providing advice to faculty members and students in the field of research and development of facilities and equipment needed to carry out research projects;
4) Needs assessment of research workshops and making necessary coordination with the University's Research & Technology Vice-Chancellor to hold them;
5) Providing facilities to use journals and academic reference books for faculty members and students;
6) Addressing the ethical aspects of research conducted by the School’s staff, lecturers and/or students;
7) Debriefing the research activities of faculty members such as articles, compilations, translation of books and sending to the Vice-Chancellor to be examined for the promotions and incentives;
8) Supervising and making coordination in holding congresses on the fields related to the School’s scope;
9) Codifying a written research evaluation program for the faculty members of the Department; and
10) Supporting joint research projects that are profitable for the School and comply with the Department's research priorities
